Professional Biography
Mr. Stewart, who began practicing law in 1971, joined Smith|Hartvigsen in 2005. He represents
owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers
in construction disputes and has served as Chair of the
Construction Law Section of the Utah State Bar. He
also mediates and arbitrates disputes.
In 1993, Mr. Stewart left private practice to become the
Director of the Real Estate Division in the Utah Department
of Commerce, where he supervised the licensing and
regulation of real estate brokers, agents, and appraisers.
In 1995, he became the Executive Director of the Utah
Judicial Conduct Commission, an eleven-member agency charged
with investigating and resolving ethics complaints against
judges.
For 20 years, Mr. Stewart served as Justice Court Judge for
the Town of Alta, Utah. He has also served as a member
of the Utah Citizens Advisory Council on Alcoholic Beverage
Control and has been a presenter in seminars on construction
law, real estate law, and judicial ethics.
