Professional Biography
Bryan is an associate at Smith|Hartvigsen where he
has an active practice in both Environmental Law and Intellectual Property law.
With the benefit of his legal and chemical
engineering background, Bryan has represented
clients in a wide range of environmental and natural
resources matters, before courts and administrative
agencies, and in private transactions and
counseling. Bryan’s environmental practice includes
representing clients with respect to brownfields
development, property contamination and cleanup,
wetlands regulations, water quality management,
stormwater and wastewater regulations, and
hydropower licensing. Bryan has also represented
public utilities before the Utah Public Service
Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC), as well as public and private water
suppliers in a wide range of matters before state
agencies and in litigation.
Bryan’s natural resources and energy practice
includes representing clients with respect to water
rights matters, oil & gas development, mining law,
hydropower licensing, and land use and land
development issues for both private and government
clients. Bryan has lectured on wetlands laws and
regulations, brownfields laws, and chemical
regulations.
Bryan's intellectual property and business practice
involved assisting clients in obtaining and protecting patent, copyright, and trademark rights. As a registered patent attorney, he represents clients before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in a wide range of technical disciplines, including chemistry and chemical engineering, mechanics, horticulture, electrical, and business methods.
Bryan also assists clients in all forms of business and transactional work, including contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property licensing, computer and Internet law, import/export regulations, due diligence, and related matters. He has worked for independent inventors and start-up companies as well as growing and established businesses. Prior to joining Smith|Hartvigsen, Bryan served as in-house counsel for a Utah-based technology firm.
